September Favorites 2016

September Favorites

Happy October, everyone!

With September officially behind us, it’s time to share some September Favorites. This past month was a bit of a weird one for me. I haven’t quite gotten back into work-mode after the summer, and I’m still trying to figure out a routine for keeping myself productive, and healthy, and happy.

Regardless, there were quite a few things that made this month a little brighter. So let’s get started!

1. Hot Tools Bubble Curling Iron

A couple months ago, I cut off ten inches of my hair, leaving it in a bob. Most days, I try to work with my hair’s natural wave and let it air-dry completely or gently blow-dry it to keep frizz at bay. But when I want a more put-together look, this Bubble Iron is my go-to. The unique wand shape creates curls that are slightly uneven, giving the style a more natural look. It’s super easy to use with short hair too, as there’s no clamp to deal with. I’ve had this curling iron for a long time, and love it even with long hair (although it does take a bit more time!). I highly recommend it if you’re in the market for an affordable curling iron!

2. haleympettit.com

Yes, I am including my own website in my monthly favorites. In addition to the joy of finally taking the site live, it has also been a lot of fun putting together the website – from the fonts, to the design, to the copy. Over on haleympettit.com I’ll be sharing more personal updates on my work and writing. So, if you’re interested in hearing more about my WIP, be sure to head over there and sign up for my newsletter, From The Desk of Haley M. Pettit!

3. Two Dots

I’m just going to come right out and say it: Two Dots is my favorite iPhone game, ever. While other apps initially catch my attention and eventually get boring, the team behind Two Dots is constantly rolling out new updates with new levels, new features, and new challenges. One of my favorite parts about this game is the way it moderates usage – once you use up your five lives, you’re done. Unless you pay for extra lives (which I won’t let myself do), or you’re SO good that you never lose a level (which I am not), you can’t play for hours at a time. Another thing I love about this game is the design – the animations are so cute! If you’re a fan of strategy/puzzle games, you should definitely download Two Dots and give it a try.

4. As If, A Clueless Podcast

I haven’t listened to Podcasts in a LONG time. I’m much more likely to listen to music or audiobooks. But one night this past month I had a particularly bad headache that wouldn’t let me sleep. After browsing through the podcasts app for a bit, I stumbled upon As If, “a podcast about clueless, where we talk about clueless, minute by minute.” And in case you didn’t know, I love Clueless. In each episode, they discuss just one minute of the film – going into detail that reminds me of the way we would analyze books in a literature class. It’s really interesting to hear what different people have to say about Clueless, minute by minute. If you’re a Clueless fan, check out this podcast. It’s the perfect thing to listen to while doing laundry, baking cookies, or falling asleep.

5. Stranger Things on Netflix

Okay. I know. I’m way behind on realizing the amazingness that is Stranger Things. But you guys, I am running to catch up to the Stranger Things bandwagon. And I hate running. You might not think it from, well, everything else about me, but I love tv shows and books that deal with supernatural stuff. Teen Wolf, Buffy, Twilight, I’m in. Stranger Things is definitely in the supernatural-genre, with amazing characters and dialogue too. Plus, Millie Bobby Brown is precious.

6. Gap Modern Long Sleeve Crew Tee

In the colder months, I live in long-sleeve tees. I’m almost always in a sweater anyway, and long sleeve tees are perfect for layering underneath almost any sweater. I recently picked up four of these tees – one in each color, LOL – at Gap, and OMG. They’re amazing. The cotton is so thick and soft, providing more warmth than your basic tee. The sleeves and hemline are also super long, even on me, at 5’10”! So if you’re a taller lady and enjoy long sleeves, be sure to try out one of these tees.

And that’s it! These six things made my September a month to remember. Thanks for reading 🙂 Maybe one of these favorites will become your new obsession too!
