May Favorites

I know, I know. It’s June 3rd already. But I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share some of the Bright Things from the past month!

READING

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. If you haven’t heard of this book/film (that comes out today!), I don’t know where you have been. I’m not usually a huge fan of contemporary adult lit, but this book captured me immediately and I couldn’t put it down. I won’t go into a whole summary of the plot, as the trailer has been on every commercial break it seems. But if you haven’t read this book, I highly recommend it.

LISTENING

The Original Broadway Cast Recording of Newsies the Musical. In late April, my family went to see the Broadway version of Newsies here in Portland. As one of my favorite movies as a child and teen, seeing it live was an amazing experience. It’s fun to listen to the Broadway version too, as the slight modifications and additional songs remind me of the show itself and how it was different from the film. If you haven’t seen Newsies, start there. And then listen to the soundtrack, it’s an Alan Menken classic.

WATCHING

Josh Sobo’s Vlogs. I haven’t been watching a lot of TV lately, but one of my favorite things to watch are Vlogs on Youtube. I especially love Josh Sobo’s Vlogs because of their unique combo of fun music, amazing drone footage of NYC, and boyish humor. His vlogs are the perfect break between work sessions or while sitting down for a snack. Check out this one where he and his friend explore an abandoned house, and try not to get hooked and watch the whole playlist.

PLAYING

Spider Solitaire. I don’t know why, but I’ve been obsessed with Spider Solitaire lately. I got a solitaire app on my phone and I am a bit addicted. I think I’m especially into the Spider version because it’s like organizing a deck of cards by suit and number… I know, I’m weird. But it’s oddly calming.

CREATING

Watercolor Quotes. If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ve seen some watercolor lettering I’ve done of my favorite quotes from books and songs. I’ve been trying to letter one quote from every book I read, and it’s a fun way to document the things I’ve read and the lines that stuck with me. I also love having the material & inspiration to practice my water brush pen lettering skills. It’s a great way to get creative and document life at the same time. If you’re interested in which watercolor set and brush pens I use, you can find them here and here.

LOVING

My new Ban.do Agenda and Accessories! Last week, I shared my Ban.do Agenda and Accessories Haul here on WBT, and I’ve already been having so much fun decorating with the stickers and tape. I still can’t wait until August to start using my new planner, but it’s a fun thing to look forward to 🙂

And that’s it for my May Favorites!
