Letter From Camp NaNoWriMo Week Three

I cannot believe it is already Week Three of Camp NaNoWriMo! Time seems to be moving in the strangest way lately. For example, I didn’t realize until about noon that it’s actually Wednesday. Days of the week just don’t seem to matter when you’re not going anywhere!

My writing has been going well, and I’m making progress toward my goal. Once I got past the first couple scenes, the revision has been a lot quicker. I still have some things I want to return back to with fresh eyes in a few days, but I’m comfortable with jumping around a bit. I know that at the end of the month I’ll be able to go back over everything and tie up the loose ends.

Here’s what my week looked like:

Day Eight: Worked on more exposition for page three. Another character is introduced so I wanted to pay a little more attention to her importance.

Day Nine: I didn’t write this day! I think I just totally forgot about it until I was all tucked in bed. Unlike other NaNos, I don’t really have a daily routine right now, so remembering to take time to write is half the battle.

Day Ten: Lots of line edits for pages six through ten.

Day Eleven: Line edits for pages ten and eleven.

Day Twelve: Another rest day! It was my brother’s birthday so I took the day off.

Day Thirteen: Line edits for pages twelve through fourteen.

Day Fourteen: Again, I didn’t do any writing this day! With it being summer (and a time of quarantine), I don’t stress about missing days. I’ve been enjoying sitting outside in the sunshine and catching up for missed days.

We are halfway through July and it has been a lot of fun getting absorbed into this story again. Scribbling away in a notebooks, sometimes out on the front porch, I’m reminded of the passion I had for writing in middle and high school. When it was just for me, with no pressure of completing a story, I could just have fun! And even though I have a goal this month, being able to get back to just paper and pen and sunshine and my story has been fulfilling.

If you are participating in Camp NaNoWriMo this July, how is your project going? I definitely feel like this is the point in NaNo where it gets a little tedious – those days in the middle where the end isn’t quite in sight. So hang in there! We can do this.

Until next week!
