You heard right! I’m going to camp! Well, kind of…
I’m Going To Camp NaNoWriMo!
If you’ve been following WBT for some time now, you’ll know that I participated in NaNoWriMo – National Novel Writing Month – last November. I am a huge fan of the NaNoWriMo organization, and I’m so excited that they offer year-round opportunities for writers to create community and get some writing done.
This April, I’m going to Camp NaNoWriMo! Like NaNoWriMo, Camp NaNoWriMo is all about reaching a word-count. But instead of writing a 50,000 word novel (although you can choose to do that again if you want), you can set your own word count goal and write Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Short Stories, a Script, or you can even revise an existing draft. It’s like a digital writers’ retreat!
I’m going to be focusing on revision this April, as I’ve found the process to be just as daunting (if not more so!) than drafting. More than ever, I need a solid goal, a set deadline, and people who are there to support me and hold me accountable. And, of course, I want to be that person for other writers too 🙂
So if you have a writing project that’s floating around in the back of your mind, I encourage you to join me! It’s a lot of work – no matter what your word count goal is – but I believe it is SO worth it. Every word, every writing session gets you closer to a finished piece.
You mentioned a packing list?
Yes! Because I’m the type of person who likes to plan (especially when it comes to camping trips), I’m going to be doing a series here on WBT that will help you prepare for camp. Every Wednesday throughout March I’ll be sharing my packing lists – new worksheets, helpful articles and blog posts, inspiration, writing prompts, and other fun things that will prepare you for your writing adventure. Whether you’re a pantser or a planner, I hope these posts will help you think about your writing in new ways and get excited for Camp NaNoWriMo. And if you’re planning to revise – like me – there will definitely be worksheets and resources for you too.
Want to be in the WBT Cabin?
Of course you do! The WBT Cabin is an exclusive Facebook Group just for those of us participating in Camp NaNoWriMo. During March, we’ll be able to throw around ideas, talk characters, share tips, and set goals together. During April, we’ll be able to check in with each other, offer encouragement, ask questions, and support each other in reaching our goals. Just click here or the image below to sign up! (Please note this is separate from BrightMail. If you’re already in the #brightclub and you also want access to the WBT Cabin, go ahead and sign up at the link below! I promise I won’t spam you with a million emails.)
I am so excited to start in on this adventure, and I sincerely hope you’ll join me. With a packing list to help you prepare and a community to support and encourage you, I have no doubt that you can write something amazing.
Let me know what you’d like to see on the packing lists. Which parts of the writing process give you the most trouble?
I also want to know what your favorite part of camp is! Mine is eating s’mores and singing around the campfire 🙂
