BRAVE – My Word for 2017

Brave - My Word for 2017

Happy New Year, dear friend.

I like to think of the a New Year as a new chapter. As we turn the year on our roller date stamps from 2016 to 2017, it’s important to look back, pause, and move forward.

2016 – Looking Back

Prompted by a “2016 Goals” sheet in my Hello Forever Planner, I chose the word BLOOM as my word for 2016. It signified beauty, growth, confidence, and curiosity. And although I didn’t thoughtfully carry the word with me throughout the year, it must have been hanging out in the back of mind. Looking back, I really did bloom in 2016. I tried so many new things, from cutting my own bangs, to attempting to edit a novel, to watercolor lettering. I contributed to an online magazine and made writing BFFs that I’d be lost without. I had pins go viral and I learned how to un-crash a crashed website and I rebranded. Looking back, 2016 was filled with moment after moment of beauty, growth, confidence, and curiosity.

A New Year’s Pause

When it came time to set my New Year’s Resolutions for 2017, I was all talk. Heck, I even designed journaling cards all about resolutions and sent them out to pen pals and friends. But this year, I didn’t set any resolutions. *gasp!* I kind of hate the saying “New Year, New You!” After a year of discovering more about who I am, what fulfills me, and what I am capable of, I don’t want a “new me”. I just want to keep becoming the best me. And so, instead of setting resolutions for the year, I decided to choose another word, a word that would inspire me to dream big all year, and not just on January first. I chose “BRAVE”.

2017 – Moving Forward

As the newness of the new year starts to fade, I want to carry my word in my back pocket, always reminding me to be brave. To try new things, to push myself in new ways, and to be honestly, confidently myself.

If you’re reading this, thank you. Yes, you. Thank you for your support, for your time, and for your likes, comments, and shares.

I am braver because of you.

Happy New Year! Here’s to the brave, bright year ahead of us. ✨
