2016 Spring Color Chart

Brighten up your life with this 2016 Spring Color Chart! Whether you're an artist, fashionista, creative, or color nerd, come see which color trends have caught my eye this season.

Hello you bright thing! Today’s post comes from nothing more than an absolute love for color – I’ve always been into color from Crayola Crayons to bright red patent leather penny loafers to the teal blue color I chose to paint my room. I’ve never shied away from color, and I think that’s one of the reasons why I’ve found it such a fun thing to play with in my creative life.

It amazes me how colors come into fashion and out, changing as quickly as the trends that embrace them. I’ve been so inspired by the Spring/Summer 2016 Runway Fashion, and a major part of my fascination has been the playful use of color.

Before I go on and on and on about colors, let’s actually start talking about some colors that I’m loving for Spring.

What I love so much about color in fashion right now is the juxtaposition – between the soft, subtle pastels, the bright, playful primary colors, and the dark, rich jewel tones, this isn’t your ordinary Spring color scheme. What’s also interesting is seeing how color can completely transform a look. We’re seeing romantic, ethereal, lace in emerald green, and structured wool pea-coats in baby pink.

Unlike the fall, that tends to be defined by warm tones, and winter, which usually leans more towards the cool end of the color scale, spring colors are a bright mixture of both. As you can see in the image above, I’ve found that the color trends this season fit into that combination perfectly. It reminds me of the phrase “April showers bring May flowers.” There’s a subtle, sombre aspect to the light blues, navy, and darker greens, but then come the bright pinks, oranges, and yellows.

I’ve always been a fan of anything and everything denim, and I am so glad to see that fashion seems to agree with me on its merits (for now, anyway). I love these muted blue shades – they pick up a little of the classic indigo-dye color too. It’s a fresh take on neutrals that will also be so easy to work into your spring wardrobe.

How gorgeous are these colors?! It might be surprising to see how amazing a bubblegum pink looks next to a spring green, but when you consider that pink is a tint of red, and red and green are complimentary, it makes sense! (#colornerd) The key here is balance – whether you’re staying monochrome or going complimentary, pair a pastel with a jewel tone for the ultimate cohesive color combo.

These colors are a visual bouquet! Spring is the perfect time to try out a new color – whether it’s just a pop of pink on the lips or a vibrant yellow maxi-dress. As a time of rebirth, don’t be afraid to experiment with color!

I hope this post gets you a little more excited for spring! Sometimes the warmer weather can mean some not so fun things like seasonal allergies, but I like to think of the oh-so-fun things like wearing those open-toed wedges that have been sitting in the back of your closet since last year. There’s always a bright side 🙂
