For Those Days When You Just… Can’t.

for those days whenEver have those days where you feel like nothing is working out? Like you’ve started eight blog post drafts and all of them are just kind of… “meh”? Or you start to draw something and end up with an almost cartoon-like pile of crumpled up pages in your recycling can? Or you just feel like everything you’re doing is at about 38% capacity? Like you know you can do better, but, you just… can’t?

I’m here to let you know that I have those days too. ALL THE TIME.

I’m having one of those days right now. And that’s why I’m writing this post. It wasn’t on my Editorial Calendar, but you know what? I’m going to let it be okay.

Something that’s been bothering me lately is how “perfect” things look on the internet. And I’m trying to figure out a way to make my blog “perfect” – as in, everything I want it to be, and only the best, inspiring content – without it making my life look perfect. Because it. is. so. not.

I’ve set myself the goal of posting to this blog three times a week. Instead of letting today’s “can’t-do-anything” attitude prevent me from sticking to my goal, I want to use it as an opportunity to encourage you (and also, be generous with myself a little bit too).

I don’t want to ever be that person that makes people think they can’t do anything. Like, they can’t ever be that creative, or that organized, or have handwriting that neat. Because I only share with you the best of the best, the final draft.

I want to be the person that makes people think they can. There might be a few crumpled up pieces of  sketch paper on the ground, or a build-up of post drafts, but that’s part of the creative process! That’s all actually A PART of getting to that finished product that you might be proud of, enough to maybe even share it.

And when you have days where you feel like you just can’t? Think of it like a rough-draft day. A crumpled up ball of paper day. Instead of staring at that big pile of “meh”, take a break. Look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow.

Those days are part of what gets you to the days where you feel like you can not only do something, but can do anything! Like the kid in the video, it might take a little bit of mumbling to find what you want to say. But then, you “can do anything!”

So instead of beating yourself up for having a “meh” day, take it easy. Be generous with yourself. Do something that will inspire you for tomorrow.

I have these problem days all of the time too-coupled with a baby whose naps last precisely 30 minutes whenever I am having a productive or good creative day! There has been a lot of deep breathing!
