The Ultimate Galentine’s Day Romantic-Comedy Guide

Galentine's Day Romantic Comedy Guide

Over the years, I’ve developed somewhat of a reputation for being the romantic-comedy/ya-lit connoisseur of my family and friends. If you’re looking for a cheesy YA romance to read or a feel-good movie, I’m the girl to ask. (And I couldn’t be more honored to hold the title.)

In the spirit of Galentine’s Day, I thought I’d compile a list of my all-time favorite Romantic Comedies. There are no sad movies in this list (aka no Nicolas Sparks) because I wanted to keep things upbeat and positive. All of these movies are romantic and funny and have that picture-perfect ending that we all know and love.

So if you’re looking for a new cute-cheesy-romantic-funny movie to watch this Galentine’s Day, you’ve come to the right place. This Romantic-Comedy Guide is split into six categories, so keep browsing until you find one that’s your cup of tea. (Or, glass of wine!)

Galentine's Day Romantic-Comedy Guide

 PG But Still OMG

Don’t let the PG rating fool you – these movies have all the rom, all the com, with none of the more mature scenes you’d find in a PG-13 movie. These movies are perfect for watching with your mom/daughter, or with your girlfriends if you just want to have a wholesome good time. (You can also save Leap Year for later in the month – it’s the perfect thing to watch on Leap Day!)

Teen

Oh, the teen movie genre… Although the portrayal of High School life can be a little unbelievable at times, there’s no doubt that teen movies perfectly portray the angst, uncertainty, humor, embarrassment, and heart-beating-just-a-little-faster-when-he’s-near moments of adolescence.

Period

If you prefer to be whisked away to another era, try one of these movies. Okay, one’s not a movie. And one doesn’t actually take place in another time. But they all have the charm (and amazing clothes) of decades past.

Supernatural

These movies aren’t going to be as LOL funny as the other’s, but what you lose in humor you gain in supernatural elements like vampires, zombies, mysterious beasts, and witchcraft. Oh, and plenty of eye-candy too.

Modern Women

Want to see women trying to figure out their careers, love lives, and their sense of self all at the same time? Pick any one of these movies. Tag along on the sometimes awkward, sometimes swoon-worthy journey of these strong women and have a good laugh too.

Musical

Part of any good rom-com is a fun soundtrack. These movies take it to the next level with amazing music – whether in a realistic way or in a break-into-song way.

I could honestly just keep adding to this list, but I’m afraid it would never end… I already feel like I should add 27 Dresses and Sabrina (1995), but honestly, I had to stop somewhere.

If I left your favorite Rom-Com off the list, be sure to share it in the comments below! Or if I did include it, let me know! I love to talk about movies.

I hope you all have a fun and fabulous Galentine’s Day and Valentine’s Day! Tell someone you love them, and make sure you show yourself a little love too.

Until Friday!

Austenland is one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. Of course that might be because I’m slightly on the obsessed side of the Jane Austen spectrum, but I laughed the entire time. Also Just My Luck!! I thought no one else knew it existed haha.

Austenland is hilarious! Even my sister who couldn’t care less about Jane Austen thought so. And yes – Just My Luck is one of those ones that no one knows about! But my love for Chris Pine and McFly makes it one of my favorites 🙂 Thanks for reading!

I had to include Twilight!! My PNW/young-adult heart couldn’t deny it a place on the list. And YES, Beautiful Creatures is good! It’s the perfect mix of interesting, cute, and mysterious. I love it!
